Your just got a new iPad, now what? This guide will help you through the set up process with helpful information along the way!
This video from 0:40 to 8:10 explains in great detail the initial process when you first turn the iPad screen on.
The only difference from the video is when you get to “screen time.” You can set this up but you do not have to.
The "bottom" of the iPad is where the charging port is located. Another way to tell is the physical circle "home button" is at the bottom of the iPad. On the top, right above the screen is the camera on the front.
On the top right of the iPad is the power button. This is used to turn the iPad on/off.
On the left hand side is the volume buttons.
The home button at the bottom lets you get back to the home screen and switch between apps. If you are trying to get out of an application the home button is the button you will use.
The first step of actually using the iPad will probably be connecting it to your home wifi. Watch the video or read below on how to do so.
1) Go to the settings app on the iPad (the grey gear icon).
2) Click on the wifi tab in the top left hand corner.
3) Click on the name of your wifi network. If you have a password it will prompt you for the password.
4) You should be connected!
Control center is the quickest and easiest way to adjust common settings such as sound and screen brightness. To see control center swipe down with one finger from the top right corner of the screen. You will then see the common settings that can be adjusted. When you are done swipe up from the bottom, press the home button or click outside of the settings.
The home button will be the most used physical button on the iPad. When you want to get out of an app you will click the home button. To switch between apps you have open double tap the home button and then pick the app you want to use.
To "quit" or "refresh" an app, double tap the home button and swipe up on the app screens that appear to send them off the screen. This "quits" the app and you can now go reopen it. This will often fix a lot of problems.
Personal iPads do not have access to self service. So, to download apps you will utilise the app store. The picture on the left is the icon you are looking for.
When downloading apps for the first time it will ask you for your apple ID username / password. This is the one you created during the setup process (or already had).
Some great educational apps that you should install are:
SeeSaw
Scratch Jr.
IXL
Lexia
Book Creator (Book Creator One allows you to creat one book for free)
Other teacher recommended apps.
To find educational apps, open the app store. Click on apps at the bottom, swipe all the way down the page. Under top categories tap on Education.
